High School students from many of the area’s schools entered amazing works of art in the annual High School Art Show hosted by Center Place. The GFWC Brandon Service League has been partnering with Center Place to provide the ribbons, monetary awards and refreshments for the past 15 years.

Center Place of Brandon, in conjunction with the GFWC Brandon Service League, held its annual High School Art Show on Thursday, March 8. Students from area high schools including Bloomingdale, Strawberry Crest, Brandon, Armwood, East Bay, Durant, Plant City and Blake submitted 50 2D pieces and 27 3D pieces.

The GFWC Brandon Service League partners with Center Place each year and provides money for the ribbons, monetary prizes and refreshments. Candy Jackson, President of GFWC Brandon Service League said, “We have a lot of talented students in our county. We’re honored to be able to recognize and honor them.” The GFWC Brandon Service League has been sponsoring the show for 15 years. The money for the awards comes from the proceeds received from their annual Jamboree.

The Judge for the show was Judith E. Johnson, an instructor at Center Place. Johnson said, “Art is very subjective and choosing award winners is a difficult task. Those that won grabbed my attention from the very start. You each have put so much talent and art into your creation.”

The first place winner for 2D was Austin Artkin of Bloomingdale High School. He submitted a 2D piece titled, “Major 7.” Johnson said of his piece, “Very talented use of scratch strokes to define light and dark values.”
The first place winner for 3D was Kenisha Morale of Blake High School with “What The Birds See.” Johnson said, “Amazing. They want to take flight.”

The first place winner for Photography was Sierra Williams of Blake High School. Her piece was titled “Light.” Johnson said, “You have captured striking shadows.”

All of the participants should be congratulated for their hard work and amazing works of art.
