Bob and Gail Palmer, co-owners of Palmer House Bed and Breakfast, are currently celebrating their 10th anniversary in business

Right on the outer edge of FishHawk, accessible only by a dirt road, sits the stunning two story house that is home to Bob and Gail Palmer and also serves as the community’s one and only picturesque bed and breakfast.

The Palmer’s first built what is now known as Palmer House Bed and Breakfast in 2000, but the couple did not officially take in guests for another two years. “When we first built the house, we did not plan on having it as a bed and breakfast,” said Gail. “It was during an anniversary party that a friend mentioned to us that the house would make a great bed and breakfast.”

In 2002 Palmer House Bed and Breakfast officially opened for business, and the guest house extension was completed in 2003. Currently the bed and breakfast has five total rooms and each morning there is a full gourmet breakfast for guests.

The bed and breakfast has room specials throughout the year, including special packages for couples looking for a night away from the kids to group retreats and weddings as well as discounts for church groups and active military.

“Since we opened we have had hundreds of weddings, hosted marriage retreats, corporate events, Valentine’s day has always been a busy weekend with couples taking advantage of our romance packages,” said Gail. “The FishHawk community in particular supplies us with around 60 percent of our business, from one night getaways to booking rooms for relatives who visit from out of town.”

Over the last ten years the economy has been on a bit of a roller coaster, but the Palmer’s firmly believe that faith is one of the reasons they have been so successful. “We are very grateful to have this business and that our business in growing,” said Gail. “The key to our success is our faith that this is what we are meant to do and thanks to the support we have from the local community.”
