Dust off your golf clubs and get ready to have some fun while supporting two worthy causes. On December 2, River Hills Community Country Club will host the inaugural Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union Foundation Fore the Kids Golf Classic which will benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation and One World, One Child.  Both charities have a unified goal of bettering the lives of children.

Registration and lunch begin at 11 a.m the day of the event with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., and an award ceremony following immediately after the tournament.  Robert Tewes, the founder of One World, One Child is very passionate about these causes and says he is hoping for a full course of 72 golfers to kick off the fundraiser.  “With every golf swing, you can support two local charities dedicated to helping children,” Tewes explains. Tewes is co-chairing the event along with Jeremy Persinger, who is a member on the board of One World, One Child with Tewes and also serves on the Pediatric Cancer Foundation board.

“We are grateful for the tremendous support of our sponsors,” Tewes says, which includes Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union Foundation, Cox Media Group,  ESPN Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl, The Mosaic Company, CBC National Bank, and Sullivan: Your Benefits Consulting Company.

The Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s goal is to eradicate childhood cancer, and they have been funding the research to do this for 21 years.  One World, One Child is a start-up organization that is dedicated to serving children with extreme needs.  “The Fore the Kids Golf Classic is a wonderful story about charities helping charities succeed,” Tewes says.  “Leaders from both organizations recognized the importance of these missions and thought a golf tournament in the FishHawk area would be a perfect opportunity to build awareness, bring the community together, and support two vital causes.” Registration and sponsorship information can be found at www.fastercure.org on the Events Page or by calling 269-0955.

In addition to the golf tournament, a fundraiser One World, One Child is sponsoring a fundraiser on December 15, to benefit A Kids Place at Chat n’ Chew Hanks in Lithia.  Festivities begin at 7 p.m. and include food, drinks, and a 50/50 raffle.  For more information, please call 813.235.3126 or visit the One World, One Child Facebook page.
