At the January meeting of the Apollo Beach Woman’s Club (ABWC), eleven members were honored for their longevity in the club.  Judy Peck, 2nd VP, introduced the honorees and gave a brief history of their participation in ABWC.  Sharon Vasquez, President, presented each with red and yellow roses, signifying friendship and love.

“Many ladies that join the ABWC remain a member for many years. Providing scholarships for local high school students and giving support to our community is very fulfilling and being a part of this organization has allowed the ladies to form lasting relationships,” said Vasquez.

Sonja Davidson, a member for 35 years, is the cornerstone for whom the foundation of the ABWC depends. Davidson has been on the Board since 2002 and for nine years she has been the annual bake sale chairperson. This year, the bake sale netted over $1900 for the Scholarship Fund.  Nobody has her work ethic because she sees no boundaries. She never says no and it is difficult to say no to her.

Janet Pizzichette joined ABWC in 1984 and has been a supporter for 30 years. A member for 20 years, Beverly Fletchall joined ABWC in 1994 and remembers when 18 ladies attended the meetings; today there are 150 members. Fletchall has held many Board positions including President and presently is co-chair of Community Service with Marcia Ward. No is not part of Beverly’s vocabulary. Carol Newcomb, also a 20-year member, continues to enjoy the culture club trips and attending events. For 15 years Ginny Burrow, Lois Kelley and Genevieve Waite have shared their enthusiasm and support in the many activities at ABWC. Jeanne Burkeson, Robin Kreimeier and Sara O’Neal have given 10 years of wisdom and service to ABWC.

ABWC is open to all women in the Apollo Beach community. In addition to raising money for college scholarships for Apollo Beach high school graduates and participating in many community outreach activities, members enjoy Book Club, bridge, Culture Club and Garden Club group activities.
