Virginia Spalter likes to experiment with her fused glass artwork. Here she is shown with one of her newest creations which used stringers of glass and a torch to create drawings and scribbles. She believes artists must keep pushing the boundaries.

Virginia Spalter, of Bloomingdale, creates beautiful works of art. Her fused glass creations are stunning and unique. Spalter said recently, “It took a long time for me to say I am an artist.” Spalter added, “I have grown immensely. I attribute that to looking at things differently. I never really realized how hard artists work to create. It’s your baby, and you hope that others will love your art as much as you do.”

Spalter is a warm and highly talented artist who is much too modest about her talent and creativity. Her glass art is simply stunning.

Spalter was chosen to create a unique piece of artwork that will be presented to the winner of Center Place’s C.A.R.E. Award (Corporate Award Recognizing Excellence). The award will be given annually at the Arts Gala. Dawn Galia, executive director of Center Place said, “The award will be created uniquely by Virginia Spalter each year. We are very excited about it.”

Spalter is also busy working on a show that will take place at the Florida Craftsman Gallery in St. Petersburg this fall. She is not only showing her work, but she is also co-curator of the show. “It is called ‘Box It’,” said Spalter. There will be six artists who will create and show boxes. Spalter is working on a new technique which creates thick glass and is creating glass boxes.

“This is my first time acting as curator. It’s a little different, but it’s a great learning experience. You have the opportunity to create a vision of your own. Bringing in different artists opens up a dialogue in art, and you can see what you can create.”

Spalter’s work can be seen locally at Orange Home Accessories, located at 1046 Bloomingdale Ave. in Valrico. You can also see her custom work at www.custommade.com or at www.onthevirgedesigns.com or follow her on Facebook at www.facebook.com/onthevirgedesigns.com.
