The GFWC Brandon Junior Woman’s Club will host their annual Bunco for Education at Center Place, which is located at 619 Vonderburg Dr. in Brandon, on Thursday, March 13.

Bring a friend and enjoy an evening of Bunco fun with light hors d’oeuvres, refreshments, 50/50, door prizes, and wonderful raffle prizes. This year Bunco players will also have an opportunity to purchase used paperback and hardback books. Social hour begins at 6 p.m., with Bunco starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at www.thebjwc.com. Tickets are also on sale at Center Place.

Proceeds from the night of Bunco fun will go toward the scholarships awarded to senior high school girls who volunteer in the community.  Scholarship applications are available now in area high school guidance counselor offices and online at www.thebjwc.com. Scholarship application deadline is April 1, 2014, and must be postmarked or received by this date to be eligible.

“Through the Sandy Waldron Scholarship, we have helped many amazing young women over the years to attend colleges all over the state of Florida and even out-of-state,” explained Vi Zonfrelli, president of the Brandon Junior Woman’s Club. “The Bunco for Education night is our major fundraiser for our scholarship program and we welcome the community to come out for a night of fun and prizes for this great cause.”

Brandon Juniors began awarding the Sandy Waldron scholarship over 15 years ago.  Sandy Waldron was a teacher and a member of Brandon Juniors when she passed away. In her memory, the club established a scholarship in her name and would award a $500 scholarship to a high school senior girl.  Each applicant would write an essay on their most rewarding volunteer experience.  Over the past few years, through the proceeds of Bunco For Education, the club has been able to not only award one scholarship but two and sometimes three scholarships and provide school supplies to Kenly Elementary School – the club’s adopted school in need.

The GFWC Brandon Junior Woman’s Club has been helping the Brandon community for over 55 years. The Sandy Waldron Scholarship has awarded $500 scholarships to about 30 girls who have volunteered in the community.
