As a community overflowing with national restaurant and business chains, some may not realize that the Brandon area boasts several excellent “mom-and-pop” businesses as well. These hidden gems of businesses are the heart of the Brandon community, working hard to bring quality products and service to local residents.

However, local businesses do not always get the proper recognition they deserve. The Osprey Observer is doing something to change that.

In conjunction with the Osprey Observer Community Newspaper, www.ospreyobserver.com launched a new video series in June, titled Local Landmarks.

At the beginning of the summer, the Osprey Observer staff collaborated to create an extensive list of local businesses that have been a staple in the community for numerous years. That list was then narrowed to feature the top community businesses.

Local Landmarks, which is hosted by Osprey Observer summer intern Jenna Withrow and executive produced by Don Ashley of AMajorTVStudio.com, is a feature of www.ospreyobserver.com. A new video from the series will be released each month.

Campbell’s Dairyland of Brandon was featured in the first video of the series, published in June. The family owned and operated restaurant has been serving its signature desserts and sandwiches to generations of families since it first opened in 1985.

Locals can stay tuned to the Osprey Observer website for upcoming Local Landmark videos featuring such businesses as the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, the Brunchery and Bill’s Prescription Center.

Suggestions of businesses that could be featured in the series can be e-mailed to Don Ashley at don@ospreyobserver.com.
