Florida Forest Service (formerly known as the FL Division of Forestry), is conducting a prescribed burn for Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department today, Wednesday, Dec. 7 at Upper Little Manatee River Nature Preserve, CR 579 in Wimauma.

The burn will last one day. The purpose of the burn is for pine flatwoods maintenance and public safety.

For more information, residents should contact the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department at (813) 672-7876.

Prescribed burns are part of the management plan objectives for lands operated by the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, and is an essential tool to maintain and, often, restore the delicate Florida ecosystems. These burns maintain the biological diversity of our natural areas and ensure public safety through the reduction of hazardous fuels in a balance between natural lands and urban living environments.
