You can discover a number of community outreach opportunities at The Regent including monthly art exhibits, Teach Your Talent, Open Mic Night! and more. For the latest information on upcoming events and programs, visit them at experiencetheregent.com/community.

The Regent, located at 6437 Watson Rd. in Riverview, is looking for 2012 to be a year full of opportunities for the community to come out and enjoy the beautiful facility. “We want to create an opportunity for members of the community to use the facility. This includes giving artists the chance to showcase and exhibit their work,” said Kristen Kerr, executive director of The Regent.

“The Community Room located on the ground floor of The Regent is essentially a blank canvas and is a perfect venue for a monthly art exhibit,” added Kerr. The first art exhibition will be held during the month of March and will feature Cindy Conti. Each monthly exhibit will be kicked off with an artist’s reception.

In addition to art exhibits, The Regent will host monthly sessions called “Teach Your Talent”.  This is an opportunity for anyone with a special talent, skill or knowledge to share it with other members of the community. These will be held in the Community Room and are free to the public.

You won’t want to miss “So You Think You Can Paint? The Greater Brandon Edition 2012.” This will give members of the community an opportunity to participate in an art exhibition. Artists can submit up to three paintings with no entry fee. Art can be dropped off on Sunday, February 5 from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, February 7 from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. The judging process is a reinterpretation of the reality TV judging shows. The community is invited to a reception and awards presentation on Friday, February 10 from 6- 8 p.m. Five grand prizes and five special category prizes will be awarded.

On Thursday, February 16 The Regent will host the first ever Open Mic Nite! from 6-8 p.m. in the Ballroom. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who likes to sing, read poetry, play music or perform before a crowd. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. You can enjoy this event for a mere $2 at the door.

If you just want to come out and check out The Regent, they will be hosting a monthly Community Open House on the first Thursday of each month from 9-10 a.m.
