Hard work and commitment paid off for EastBay Youth Athletic (EBYA) coaches and players at the District 10 Babe Ruth All Star Tournament hosted last month by the Bloomingdale Youth Sports Association in Valrico.

East Bay’s Softball 8U and 10U All Star teams were crowned Champions of their age groups, qualifying both teams to advance to the Babe Ruth Softball Florida State Tournament in Newberry, Fla.

Managed by Rob Woods and coached by Victor Rodriguez and Kevin Ihm, players defeated Fossil Park 16-6 finishing the tournament undefeated and earning the title EBYA 8U All Stars.

EBYA’s 10U Softball All Stars, managed by Steven Bendenbaugh and coached by Matt Hallock and Stephen Ruszkowski, went 4-1 over the four-day tourney, also beating the host team in the championship game 12-2 to win the District 10 title and advance to the Florida State Tournament.

Proud of his players, Hallock emphasized that his team outscored its opponents 41-17 during the course of the tournament.

Following the district win, not to mention that eight of the 12 girls on the 10U team are former members of the 2014 8U EBYA All Stars Florida State Championship team, Hallock had no reason to doubt another state success.

“The girls are truly working hard and are looking forward to competing in the Babe Ruth Softball Florida State Tournament in Newberry,” Hallock said. “They are looking forward to head back to the State Tourney to see if they can bring another title back to EastBay.”

EBYA’s 16U Softball All Stars were also awarded with an automatic bid to the State Tournament in Newberry to represent District 10.
