On Thanksgiving morning, the community is invited to participate in the Tampa Y’s Goody Goody Turkey Gobble 5K, sponsored by Goody Goody restaurant. Goody Goody will open in Tampa’s Hyde Park Village in early 2016. The race begins at 7 a.m. Registration is available online at www.active.com.

This fun 5K or one mile walk/run is a chip-timed race on a USATF-certified course beginning and ending at the Amalie Arena. The route is an out and back course, taking participants across the Platt Street bridge and along the beautiful and scenic Bayshore Boulevard. Strollers are welcome and there will be music, refreshments and family fun.

“Goody Goody is the title sponsor because I believe in the Y and in fitness,” said Richard Gonzmart, fourth generation co-owner and president of the Columbia Restaurant Group, which owns and will operate the Goody Goody restaurant.

Registration is just $30 for teens and adults 12 and older for the 5k and for the team 5k, and $15 for the one mile run/walk.

All proceeds raised from the Goody Goody Turkey Gobble 5K will support the LIVESTRONG program for cancer survivors and their families. The free 12-week program, which is offered at all area Y’s, offers people affected by cancer a safe, supportive environment to participate in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person. Since the journey through cancer treatment is a brave one, during the race registration process participants will have the opportunity to purchase their own personalized superhero cape to honor the superhero they are running for on Thanksgiving Day.

“The Goody Goody Turkey Gobble is a great way to give back to the community, while bringing together family and friends on the holiday,” said Lalita Llerena, communications director for The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA. “Fundraising events like this race ensures that no child, family or adult is turned away from the Y. We believe every person deserves to experience the safe and supportive environment of the Y.”
