There has never been a better excuse to go fishing and play a round of golf. The 6th Annual Hook ‘n’ Sink Golf and Fishing Tournament, presented by the Sunset Grille at Little Harbor Resort, will not only be a blast for professionals and amateurs alike, but the event will make the weekend of March 18-20 truly meaningful. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Mary & Martha House, which provides emergency and transitional shelter for homeless and abused women and their children. Laurie Herring, the programs and housing director, summarized the organization’s mission, “We help women overcome their barriers, so they can succeed and transform their lives.”

Individuals can choose to participate in one, two, or all three days, but the fun starts Friday, March 18 with the Kick Off Party and Captain’s Meeting overlooking the water at the beautiful Sunset Grill at Little Harbor located at 611 Destiny Dr. in Ruskin. This event is open to all participants and supporters of the Mary and Martha House.

Anglers set sail on Saturday, March 19, but an important note is that all fishing tournament participants must check in no later than 7 a.m. at Little Harbor, Ruskin. Boats may be launched from other locations, but mandatory check-in is required. Charters are available, but should be reserved in advance. Following the fun out on the water, an awards banquet and dinner will be held at the Sunset Grill at 4:30 p.m. Individuals and teams will then hit the links for the charity golf tournament Sunday, March 20 at Club Renaissance located at 2121 S. Pebble Beach Blvd. in Sun City Center. A similar awards banquet and dinner at the Sunset Grille will be held following the tournament.

Cost of registration for the fishing tournament is $50 for adults and $25 for children 11 and younger. All minors need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Cost of registration for the golfing tournament is $75 per person and $300 per foursome. The Friday night kick off party, take-along lunch, and tournament-specific awards banquet are all included in the registration fee. New this year, there are cash prizes for both pros and amateurs in the fishing tournament. There is also a cash prize in the children’s fishing tournament and cash awards for the top foursome in the golfing tournament.
