New diet and fitness programs are often trending for humans, but what about canines? Angie Frazier and Kendall Duncan, co-owners of Canine Cabana, a local doggie daycare company, made sure dogs wouldn’t be left out, especially since 58 percent of the nation’s pets are overweight.

“The physical and mental health of all dogs is just as important as our own. We want all dogs to be in the best overall health so they can live happy, healthy and long lives,” Frazier continues. The Fit Paws program is full of safe and fun exercises that tackle the extra “fluff” on each pooch.

Over the course of 20 days, a personal, certified trainer will portion out meals and treats as well as create customized mental and physical exercises catered to each pet’s individual ability and endurance, allowing for an overall healthier lifestyle. The program also includes daycare, which means dogs can enjoy socializing and playing in addition to shedding some pounds. Each week, the trainer holds consultations with each dog’s owner to discuss challenges and progress.

Frazier and Duncan met at Busch Gardens where they served as zookeepers in 1997. Eight years ago, they collaborated to create Canine Cabana, a dog lodging, daycare, grooming and personalized training facility. With over 20 team members, “We are experts in our field. Our team is thoroughly trained in dog language, behavior and animal care, as well as CPR and First Aid. We have constant supervision of all activities and keep the highest staff to dog ratios of any facility,” explains Frazier. Canine Cabana is also open for drop off and pick up seven days a week with full staff, hours and activities each day.
