The path to a healthy lifestyle begins early in life. The problem of childhood obesity continues to plague American families impacting over ten percent of children, and with obesity comes increased risks of heart disease, diabetes, asthma, social discrimination, and lowered self-esteem. However, this is entirely preventable, and there is a solution: My Gym in Brandon.
Committed to helping adolescents develop physically, psychologically, and emotionally, there is something for kids of all ages from six weeks through their teens. Most importantly, My Gym makes fitness fun, so children develop healthy practices they carry into adulthood.

Thurlowe Russell, owner and director of My Gym, understands the important mission that comes with attaining the milestones of a healthy, happy life.

“I’m a dad of two, so I have a 4-year-old who is about to be five and a 7-year-old. As a parent who worked through weekends, finding a program that was safe and fun and helped my kids’ development was a challenge. I happened to go to My Gym in another area, and I thought it would be a great opportunity to provide for my kids. I treat everyone like my own kids.”

My Gym offers classes and open-play hours. Whether children are a Little Bundle, a Terrific Tot, a Mighty Mite, or a Cardio Kid there are classes suited for all ages to develop strength, coordination, balance, and flexibility in a structured, engaging environment complete with gymnastics, music, dance, and sports. It also offers space for birthday parties and special events.

Parents can take advantage of My Gym as well. Every second Friday of the month from 6:30-10 p.m., My Gym holds a Parent’s Night where parents can drop off their kids who will have the opportunity for open play, movies, pizza, and more.

My Gym is rolling out some summer promotions for its summer camp opportunities from June 13-17 and July 11-July 15. Camp runs from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. each day and offers the same opportunity for children ages three and older who are potty trained to have fun and stay active. No two days are ever the same. Parents who book all ten camp days will receive them for the cost of eight. There will be a summer camp enrollment event Friday, May 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
