Hawthorne Hosts Parkinson’s Disease Support Group

Hawthorne Health & Rehabilitation Center hosts a monthly support group for those diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and caregivers on the third Thursday of every month. Physical, speech and occupational therapists will discuss treatment for issues related to balance, swallowing, talking and other skills that can be affected by Parkinson’s Disease.

Hawthorne Health & Rehabilitation Center, located at 851 W. Lumsden Rd. in Brandon, is a skilled nursing facility with inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs including speech, physical and occupational therapies. Hawthorne also hosts a dementia support group in the assisted living facility, as well as past meetings for those dealing with strokes, diabetes, low vision and other diseases.

The Parkinson’s Disease support group is free of charge and open to those who have been diagnosed with the disease, family members, caregivers and anyone with an interest in learning more about Parkinson’s. For more information or to register, call 661-8998 Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Elvis Tribute Artist To Perform At Winthrop Barn Theatre

Cote Deonath, an award-winning Elvis Tribute Artist, will perform on Friday, July 7 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. (doors open 6:30 p.m.) at the Winthrop Barn Theatre.

Deonath’s interest in Elvis began at age 2 when his grandmother sat with him to watch Follow That Dream, filmed near Deonath’s hometown of Ocala. He has been paying tribute to The King for over a decade, winning numerous contests and earning three Grand Champion titles. He recently made the top ten in The Ultimate Elvis Contest, competing alongside 20 of the world’s best.

Tickets cost $20 and are only available via advance sales – no tickets at the door. Water and snacks will be available for $1 each. Call the Campo Family YMCA at 684-1371 for tickets.

Ladies Night Out Benefits LifeCare

On Thursday, July 27 from 6:30-9 p.m., the LifeCare Network will host its annual Latte for Life—a Ladies Night Out fundraiser. The event will take place at the Regent, located at 6437 Watson Rd. in Riverview. Guests will have the opportunity to sample specialty desserts and coffees while enjoying live music entertainment and a guest speaker. The night will also feature client testimonies, a ministry update and an opportunity to give financially to the organization. LifeCare’s mission statement is “to lead those we serve to the unconditional love of Christ as we protect the sanctity of human life, promote biblical sexuality, and proclaim God’s plan for marriage and the family.” Ladies can register to attend as guests or host a table of eight. Rosecastle at Delaney Creek Summer Yard Sale

Rosecastle at Delaney Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care community is having a Summer Yard Sale on Friday, July 14. The event takes place from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Attendees can shop house wares, toys, electronics, clothing, jewelry and more and can also enjoy a $3 lunch special. All proceeds from the event will go toward the local Alzheimer’s Association.
