Center Place held its Annual Little Monsters Create Art Exhibit during the month of July. This year, the fifth annual show, had 50 children entering 103 pieces. The show features multiple mediums, and the show was open to children ages four to 13. An Artists’ Reception was held on Thursday, July 20.

The judge for the show was Jennie Sikora-Muehl, an artist and art instructor at Center Place. Sikora-Muehl said of the children’s artwork, “This was a very creative and expressive group of upcoming artists. I noticed a great eye for color, texture and design in the artworks that were submitted. Many stories, feelings, favorite pets, people and places are being shared through these works.”

The show was divided into three age groups. The first place winner in the four to six age group was Brodie Novitske with My Painting. Tegan Hanks took second place with Tree and Lily Pads in Nature. Third place went to Hazel Foister with Framed Yarny Cat.

The first place winner in the seven to nine year age group was Isabell “Izzy” Carpenter with “Ballerina Mermaid.” Second place went to Sophia Marchese with Cabin in the Wood. Third place was awarded to Sritanvi Ananya Vinjamuri with Owl.

In the 10 to 13 age group, the first place winner was Danica Buckley with A Walk in the Rainbow. Second place went to Katherine “Kate” Tumlin with Make Waves. Third place was awarded to Zion Phoenix with Shunryn Suzuki.

Best in Show went to Antonia Pretelt for her painting, Woman in the Shadows. Pretelt said in her Artist’s Statement, “In the artwork I had to look for the areas in the woman’s face with the most light. This was challenging because I am more used to paying attention to the darker areas in a picture. I used the negative space in the drawing to create the shadows. I used value to make the face look more 3D.”

The Little Monsters Create Art Show is an annual show which is open to children ages four to 13 who reside in the greater Brandon area regardless of whether they art classes at Center Place.
