Join Lisa Rodriguez (L ), Center Place Marketing Director and Janine Nickerson (R ), President of The Community Roundtable on Saturday, October 6 for the Annual Cards For Troops Event at Center Place in Brandon.

Center Place Fine Arts and The Community Roundtable present the 11th Annual Cards For Troops on Saturday, October 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Center Place located at 619 Vonderburg Dr. in Brandon.

Members of the community, 16 years and older, can come together to assemble thousands of cards for service men and women who are currently deployed the world over. No experience is necessary. This is a free event for the community.

Susan Saunders, a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator, is this year’s chair. According to Lisa Rodriguez, Marketing Director for Center Place, “Susan sees this event as a win-win for our community, military and Center Place as well as The Community Roundtable. With MacDill in our backyard, this is one way for everyone in our community to get involved and say thank you to all those currently serving our country.”

Last year, 2,600 cards were created by approximately 120 volunteers. Those who participate will create step-by-step instructional hand-made cards. The inside is left blank for the soldiers to write a personal sentiment to their families.

There are many ways that you can get involved in this community effort. Area businesses and organizations can sponsor donations. You can promote your business by providing a raffle item. The funds from the raffle help to defray the cost of supplies and postage. Additionally, you can donate food for volunteers and provide addresses of deployed service members.

If you can help with any of the above, please contact Center Place. All contributions are tax deductible.

Rodriguez added, “This event is a good fit as The Community Roundtable is very supportive of our military. For Center Place, this event allows volunteers to let their inner artist shine as they help make these beautifully decorated holiday cards. If you have some time on Saturday, October 6, join us for this very special community event. October 6 is also National Card Day.”

Card For Troops was started in 2008. Since that time, over 25,000 cards have been created by area volunteers.

If you would like to become a sponsor, donate an item or volunteer, please contact Center Place at 685-8888 or email cpfinearts@verizon.net.
