Bloomingdale High School’s Class of 2013 held its annual Beauty and the Bull on Tuesday, March 6. 58 students participated as competitors including Cover Girl, Annie Irish and her escort, Jeremy George and People’s Choice winner, Emma Collard and her escort, Cory Payton.

The community came together to support the students at Bloomingdale High School at the Class of 2013’s “Beauty and the Bull” event held on Tuesday, March 6 at Bloomingdale High School located at 1700 E. Bloomingdale Blvd. in Valrico. Beauty and the Bull is the Junior Class’ fundraising event which is used to raise funds for their senior year functions such as prom and the year end celebration.

The Class of 2013 raised over $3,500.00 with the help of over 400 people including generous local business partners and supporters at this year’s event.

Beauty and the Bull is a pageant like competition where students compete for recognition in a school calendar. The calendar commemorates the event. 29 couples participated in the event including Emma Collard of Valrico. Collard is a member of the Junior Steering Committee, the FPSA club, the Bloomingdale High School Swim Team and the Blue Wave Swim Team. Collard said, “I was a participant in the event, and I got involved because it is a great way to raise your self confidence and to raise money for my junior class.”

Junior Class President, Vincent Roth said, “Beauty and the Bull took months of hard work and planning on Bloomingdale Junior Steering Committee’s part. We cannot, however, neglect to acknowledge the great support our community provided. Without help from our fellow community members who sponsored this event and provided various services, it would not have been nearly as successful.” Roth added, “While it was the chief responsibility of the Junior Steering Committee to seek out these connections and coordinate all of them for the day of the event, it was our community helpers who stepped up to the plate and made this year’s event one of the most profitable in Bloomingdale’s history.”

Bloomingdale High School was established in 1987. The school serves over 2300 students in grades 9 through 12. The Principal is Mark West.
