Sue Allen, one of the talented art instructors at Center Place, celebrated the work of Dr. Peggy Hart, one of her students at the Adult Student Art Show held at Center Place. Here they are shown with Hart’s watercolor piece titled, A Rocky Mountain Morning.

The Annual Adult Student Art Show reception was held at Center Place of Brandon earlier this month in the Mook Gallery. The annual show is sponsored by the Brandon League of Fine Arts and is held as a celebration of the accomplishments of the student artists. The artwork will be on display at Center Place, located at 619 Vonderburg Dr. in Brandon, through the end of April.

Sue Allen, an accomplished watercolor artist who resides in FishHawk, is one of the teachers at Center Place. Allen said, “Approximately six out of 10 students participate in the show. We tell them to put in the work that they are most proud of. This gives them an opportunity to show what they have learned. I am very proud of my students.”

One of Allen’s students is Dr. Peggy Hart, of Brandon. Hart is a retired professor from Eastern Michigan University. Hart said, “I started about a year ago. I had never painted before, but I just fell in love with watercolor, and now I take three classes with Sue Allen.” Hart added, “I think Center Place is a hidden treasure in Brandon. To think that we have the opportunity to work with well known artists who are known nationally for their work is amazing! We are truly fortunate.”

Debra Bryant has been teaching classes at Center Place for nine years. Bryant said, “The show is always a good opportunity to students to showcase their work. It also showcases the instructors.” Bryant added, “I like to teach because I learn from my students. When they encounter a problem, we have to figure out solutions together.”

Susan Joseph, of Riverview, has been taking classes from Tim Mandese for several years. Joseph said, “I learn something every time I take a class.”

The Adult Student Art Show is not judged. Students are simply given the opportunity to show their artwork in a gallery setting. The instructors at Center Place include Debra Bryant, Sue Allen, Judy Johnson, Tim Mandese, Meletha Everett and Greg Manley.
